How should I greet people in Afghanistan?

Greetings are generally formal and respectful. A handshake is common between men, but physical contact between men and women is usually avoided unless initiated by the woman. A slight bow of the head with the greeting “Salaam Alaikum” (peace be upon you) is always appropriate.
